Maximise Q5 Performance: Unlocking the Value of Q5 Marketing for Mobile Game Developers

Oct 13, 2025·6 min read

Summary

Q5, the period from late December to mid-January, extends holiday marketing beyond Cyber 5. For mobile game advertisers, Meta describes a cost-effective window: larger brands exit auctions after shipping deadlines, CPAs fall below pre-Cyber 5 levels, and CPMs reach seasonal lows. Purchase intent stays high as consumers spend gift cards/cash gifts, Meta platform time increases, and mobile usage peaks at home.

Gaming is not constrained by shipping cutoffs, so stabilized CPMs enable a final end-of-year push. Meta's AppsFlyer analysis identifies four trends. First, Western markets see a Q5 surge in gaming ad spend as clients scale to capture growing players.

Second, APAC Q5 peaks are driven by local cultural celebrations such as Shōgatsu in Japan and Lunar New Year in Greater China, not just Christmas/New Year. Third, top-100 game revenue timing differs: IAA starts rising in early November, peaks around Black Friday, and offers another opportunity Dec 25–Jan 1; IAP picks up closer to mid-December. This supports differentiated resource allocation and campaign planning.

Fourth, retargeting conversions trend upward from early October across iOS casual/casino and Android casual/midcore, suggesting retargeting should be part of Q5 BAU. Meta recommends four action areas. 1) Seasonal efficiency: plan holiday campaigns early, keep budgets flexible, and use auction trends to exploit lower media costs and continued demand.

2) Automation: enable Advantage+ and Advantage+ app campaigns for real-time AI targeting/bidding, use budget/ad scheduling, and include 50 differentiated creative ads to drive incremental ROAS. 3) Seasonally relevant creative: mix concepts/formats, use generative AI for scaled variations, deploy Partnership Ads with creators, and add native gaming sounds to Reels. 4) High-value users: use Value Rules and Value Optimization to guide AI toward in-app purchase or ad impression value; align top seasonal creatives with Custom Product Pages and Custom Store Listings; test web-to-app strategies with interactive landing pages for conversion and measurement.

Analyst Note

Meta's Q5 framing is less a new holiday tactic than a bid to extend automation-led buying across a calendar gap where auction competition softens after Cyber 5. What's notable is the IAA/IAP timing split: it pushes media planners to treat monetization model as a pacing variable, not just a targeting layer. The AppsFlyer partnership signal is also relevant for measurement parity, as retargeting and value optimization increasingly depend on clean conversion signals in a post-ATT environment.

Competitive angle: Meta is positioning Advantage+ and value rules as the default execution layer for seasonal demand, while leaning on platform time-spent and cross-app inventory as differentiators. For ad ops, the key implication is operational: creative volume, budget flexibility, and auction signals become tightly coupled in Q5, especially when CPMs dip and purchase intent briefly rises. APAC nuance matters too—Lunar New Year and Shōgatsu create different peak windows than Western Christmas, so regional teams cannot inherit global pacing assumptions.

Worth watching whether Q5 becomes a standard fourth planning cycle rather than an extension of Cyber 5. If IAA and IAP curves diverge again, campaign structures and retargeting cadences may need to be separated by monetization model.

Winning every stage of the shopper journey with data – your ultimate guide to eCommerce app growth

App measurement is fundamentally different from web analytics due to data fragmentation across ad networks, devices, and apps. A Mobile Measurement Partner (MMP) like AppsFlyer bridges these gaps, enabling unified attribution, fraud protection, and LTV measurement. For eCommerce, granular event tracking, deep linking, and privacy-safe data collaboration are critical. Leaders should focus on metrics like IR, CPI, LTV, and ROAS, and adopt AI-driven optimization to overcome challenges like ad fraud and privacy changes. The future is Connected Commerce—integrating apps, web, retail media, and AI.

Cyber 5 2025: What worked, what changed and how to win Q5

Cyber 5 2025 saw $44.2B in online sales (+7.7% YoY), with Black Friday outpacing Cyber Monday for the first time. Mobile dominated (57.5% of Cyber Monday sales), and AI shopping assistants surged 670% YoY, converting 38% better than traditional sources. The efficiency paradox emerged: higher CPMs but lower CPAs due to spike in conversion rates (Black Friday CPA down 14% vs. early Oct). Omnichannel campaigns delivered 35% lower CPA. Q5 (post-Cyber Monday) offers the most efficient period with low CPMs and high purchase intent. Key tactics: creative diversity, automation, creator partnerships, and remarketing.

How banks measure marketing ROI across every channel: Paid, owned, and app

Banks lack unified attribution for owned channels (email, SMS, push), web, QR codes, and re-engagement, causing budget misallocation. Omnichannel attribution connects all touchpoints to deposits and loans, revealing that owned channels can be 2-3X more cost-efficient than paid ads. Cross-device journeys (e.g., mobile ad to desktop conversion) remain invisible in single-device attribution. Banking-grade compliance (SOC 2, ISO 27001) is maintained. Ad ops decision-makers can optimize budget allocation by comparing true cost per deposit/loan across channels.

Unwrapping Seasonal Strategies: Where the Growth Lives Across Q4 and Q5

The 2025 holiday season offers peak engagement from Diwali through Q5. Key efficiency windows include Christmas-New Year for US gaming (ROAS +32% iOS, +15% Android) and social apps (+88% ROAS). Marketers should front-load testing in early Q4, then scale UA during festive dips in CPI. Timing spend to user behavior (e.g., Lunar New Year spikes in Korea and Japan) maximizes ROAS across verticals.

Creative optimization: Why your best video ad fails as a static image

AppsFlyer’s 2026 creative data shows video and static image ads reward opposite creative qualities, so ad ops teams should plan, budget, and test them separately. Video spend is concentrating: gaming’s top 2% of video creatives captured 60.7% of spend, up from 53.5%, while image spend spread out. Top spenders are testing far more variations, widening the testing gap. Action/Strategy and Puzzle/Lifestyle show format-specific tone and social-proof reversals; Finance is the exception. Teams should use AI-assisted variation, analyze video winners deeply, keep broad image testing, and measure performance at attribute level.
